#FASTEN. Magnemite Amigurumi Pattern

Hey everyone!! Happy (super-belated) New Year! It's been a quiet couple of months for me in terms of crochet. My hands were feeling a tad bit full with work but I'm back and I am HERE to stay!

For those of you who follow me on Instagram, you know I started this project in November. It wasn't until last month that I decided to revisit and complete this project. This one was a suggestion I got a while back from a good friend of mine. While there are already several patterns out for this fella, I wanted to create my own pattern anyway! My goal for this pattern was to create magnets with flat bases and a well-defined "U" shape. I was able to achieve that with lots of trial, lots of error, and --of course-- cardboard!

I tried to add as many tips as I could in the pattern, so I hope you find them helpful as you crochet your own Magnemite! This pattern is made up of simple shapes, so crocheting all of the limbs and details will be pretty straight forward. HOWEVER-- the more simple an amigurumi's design, the more attentive you must to be when sewing it all together! Clean and symmetrical sewing are absolutely essential to creating a beautiful finished project.

As such, I will leave you with two tips worth repeating before you begin this project. Check 'em out below!

1. Use sewing pins generously and plan, plan, plan before you sew!

I like to place sewing pins in to each and every stitch that I plan to sew into before I begin. This will help me get a preview of the final product when it's sewn on. It also helps me ensure that I am sewing circular shapes (like the screw seen here in the photo) in a circular fashion.

2. Less stuffing is (sometimes) more.

There are moments where you want to cram as much stuffing as possible into your shape. Stuffing helps you to "round out" your projects. Sometimes, adding more stuffing in specific areas can sculpt your amigurumi and create really interesting shapes! HOWEVER!! The reverse can also be true. This pattern will ask for you to lightly stuff the top of screws and the "top" of the magnets. Why? I've incorporated several "back loops only" rounds in several parts of the pattern in order to give off the effect of flat ends. The effects of these rounds are only visible with less stuffing. If you overstuff the magnets and screws, you'll get a cuddly-looking plush bulging at the ends, but you will compromise the faithfulness of your project to the original character's design.

Ok, the moment you've been waiting for: the pattern!! You can download the pattern for free by clicking the link below. Have fun putting Magnemite together and I can't wait to see all of your awesome finished projects!! Of course, if you have any questions or comments about this pattern, I'd love to hear from you!! Pattern writing and updating the blog are both hobbies of mine that I really enjoy! As such, I want to continue doing it as a hobby and sharing my work for free! If you really enjoy my work and wish to support me, please consider supporting me on ko-fi. :)

Happy holidays, happy crocheting and stay safe everyone,

Cindy.
