#FASTEN. Starmie Amigurumi Pattern

Hi Friends! Yes, I have returned and no, this is not a dream: the Starmie pattern is finally here!

Soooo many of you have been telling me how excited you are to make your own Starmie, and I am beyond pumped to see all of your creations! I hope that this pattern is easy to follow and that you have a ton of fun working on your projects.

I developed this pattern after I received a commission request via Instagram! I actually got a request to work on a Metapod and Starmie back in October; at that time, I was feeling pretty overwhelmed with my day job and navigating face-to-face teaching during a pandemic. A couple of months (ok, like 4 months D:) went by and I received a DM from the same person, asking if my commissions were still closed. I felt so terrible about having left them hanging so there was only one way to right this wrong: take the order and start crocheting!

Had I not been commissioned to make it, Starmie would have never been on my radar. As the project came together, I realized that it has such a cool design! The body, jewel and core parts have such a neat contrast in shapes and colours that Starmie will brighten up any space you decide to place it in. Just like my other projects, this one took some time (and lots of frogging) to put together so I really hope you enjoy it!

In true frog&fasten fashion, here are a few tips and tricks before you get started on the pattern:

Sewing in this project is key! Taking your time to sew to ensure symmetry goes a really long way.

If you plan to add the shimmer effect on the jewel with needle felting, do your needle felting BEFORE sewing the jewel on! Once you've sewn, stuffed, and placed the cardboard all inside, you won't be able to needle felt on the surface. Hahaha since the shimmer was an afterthought for me, I had to resort to hand-sewing cut felt onto the jewel.

Sewing the spaces between each arm of the star will mean you'll need to knot/fasten off quite a bit of yarn. Try to hide these knots in the space *between* the front and back star. You can further hide them by using a felting needle to push them inside the body shapes.

Sewing on the spokes symmetrically can be a challenge. Sew the spokes in this order to help with their placement: N-S-E-W-NE-SW-NW-SE. (These are the cardinal directions, by the way!) Look at lots of reference photos as well to determine the best placement on your Starmie!

When you're sewing both stars together to make Starmie's body, go around the body a second time. This time, sew a wider circle to really tighten/close the gap between both stars. The goal is to reduce Starmie's bulk and give off the effect of both stars being firmly attached.

Alright, that's enough yapping from me. You can download the pattern for free by clicking the link below. I tried to add lots of photos to explain some of the more challenging bits, so I hope they're helpful to you! If there's anything unclear, add a comment below or feel free to reach out to me via ig @frogandfasten. I love feedback and I want to continue putting out amazing patterns for you guys, so share your suggestions with me, too!
